| Background of The Department |
The Department of Irrigation and Drainage was set up on the 1 January, 1967 with the main purpose t look after functions relating to irrigation and drainage that were once under the care of the Public Works Department. Approximately a year later the department extended its administration to the major Divisions with Sibu being one of staffs. After more than three decades the department has expanded and progressed by leaps and bounds with the present office housed at the 7 Floor of the Majestic Wisma Sanyan renowned for being the tallest building in the State.In the earlier days the task of the department was mainly confined to Agriculture drainage but with the changing of time and fast development, the task has increased to include hydrology, urban drainage, river engineering and other support services. To keep abreast with the world of globalization and fast development the department envisages a more challenging role and a wider scope of work to come. |
