GUIDELINES TO MACHINERY AVAILABILITY & MAINTENANCE The main function of the Mechanical Division in DID Sarawak is to provide Mechanical Engineering support by ensuring readily available machineries, plant & equipment in order to achieve the department's purpose. |
(a) Machinery Availability Machine can be available in 3 ways :- (i) Renting - usually for short term usage Renting is considered best alternative when :- * low annual use with specialised operations. * required in periods of uncertainity * execution of important operation within certain time * deferring of capital expenditure. (ii) Leasing - usually for long term usage Leasing is considered best alternative when * short on capital * short term opportunity in business occured * higher rate of return of business * uncertain future where long term comittment is defered * operational advantage of having the latest model machine * business to phase out soon (iii) Owning - admitted as an asset/investment Owning is considered best alternative when * capital is not a limiting factor * size of business fairly stable * machine unlikely to become obsolete before worn out * tax consideration an advantage |
