KUCHING (Jan 10): Repairs and restoration of roads and bridges cut off by floods and landslides in Sarawak will be carried out promptly, assured Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
The State Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development noted that 17 landslides have been reported in the Serian Division alone, while complaints have also come from Baram and Kakus, where roads and bridges were damaged or severed.
“In this regard, the Director of Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak and Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak have been summoned to ensure that repair works are carried out immediately,” he said when met at the temporary evacuation centre at Kampung Bijuray in Bau.
Uggah added that the state government had issued more than 58 tenders and spent nearly RM300 million to upgrade key infrastructure projects aimed at reducing the impact of disasters during the northeast monsoon season.
