SIBU (Sept 17): River cleaning works along roads in the Bawang Assan constituency have commenced, said assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.
He said the cleaning efforts will be carried out in stages.
“When completed, it will greatly help enhance smoother drainage flow in the area,” he added in a statement.
Among the locations involved in the river-cleaning works are Jalan Sg Maaw (11 areas), Tg Kunyit (eight areas), Pulau Kerto (six), Pradom and Bukit Besai (one each).
Wong and his team recently visited several sites where the cleaning works are being carried out, accompanied by officers from the Sarawak Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID).
Separately, Wong and his team also made a working visit to the installation of HDPE culvert pipes in front of SJK Ting Sing.
He said the maintenance process is expected to be completed as soon as possible.
“Hopefully, the contribution from my service team can help resolve the issue of clogged drains and drainage blockage problems within the school compound.”
Also accompanying the inspection team was Councillor Wong Hua.
Meanwhile, the Bawang Assan Women’s Section organised a mooncake-making programme in conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival, together with Wong and Bawang Assan Division committee members.
The activity, which involved sharing experiences in learning how to make mooncakes, further strengthened bonds among friends from different communities.
“The culture of celebrating the Mooncake Festival is important because it symbolises the Mid-Autumn Festival of the Chinese community,” said Wong.
