Nine West Bank drains in Sibu undergo clearing works ahead of monsoon season

SIBU (Nov 3): Nine drains in the West Bank here are being cleared ahead of the coming monsoon season.

According to Bawang Assan assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh in a recent statement, the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) targets to complete the clearing works this month.

Soon Koh inspected the nine drains and was accompanied by DID Sibu assistant civil engineer Mohammad Nazirudin Ramli, councillor Wong Hua, and local community leaders.

The drains comprise those located in Sungai Tanjung Kunyit which spans 1.24km; Sungai Dassan (1.38km); Sungai Makuo (2.55km); Sungai Tieng Ging (1.07km); Sungai Keng Nang (0.85km); Sungai Ensurai (1.39km); Sungai Nawar 1.38km; Sungai Nawar 2 (1.39km); and Chung Hung Toh (0.52 km).

“DID is clearing these nine drains and they aim to complete the works within this month.

“With monsoon season approaching, it is crucial that the drains are cleared to help mitigate occurrences of flash floods,” said Soon Koh.
