KUCHING (Feb 5): The National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (PRABN) has issued flood warnings for 26 districts in nine divisions in Sarawak from Feb 5 to 7 following continuous rain warning (severe) issued in those areas.
In a preliminary forecast posted on the Malaysian Drainage and Irrigation Department’s (DID) Facebook page at 3pm, PRABN stated that floods are likely to occur in Kuching, Bau, and Lundu districts (Kuching Division); Serian and Siburan districts (Serian); Samarahan, Asajaya, and Simunjan districts (Samarahan); and Sri Aman district (Sri Aman).
In Betong Division, floods are expected in Betong and Saratok districts.
Floods are also expected in Julau, Meradong, Pakan and Sarikei (Sarikei) and Sibu, Selangau and Kanowit districts (Sibu).
Similarly, Tanjung Manis, Dalat, Daro, Matu and Mukah districts (Mukah) and Bintulu, Tatau and Sebauh districts (Bintulu) may also experience floods.
PRABN, an agency under DID, said it would continuously monitor the situation and update flood warnings as necessary, depending on rainfall levels in the river basins.
“A predicted flood may occur earlier or later than the expected date. All disaster management agencies as well as the people, especially in areas expected to flood, are asked to be alert and sensitive to the instructions of the authorities.
