MIRI (May 12): Contractors of the dual carriageway and Limbang Waterfront Phase 2 projects have been called on to urgently repair the damaged road and improve drainage in the area for better safety and to prevent flash floods.

There were flash floods in Limbang town last week and the public have also complained of dangerous potholes on the road due to the two ongoing projects.

Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said immediate steps must be taken as the road is sandwiched between Bukit Mas and the river.

“You must repair any road damage without delay and try to speed up completion of this dual carriageway project,” he said during a site visit with Limbang District Council secretary Petrick Linggie Taboh on Monday.

The RM15 million 1.16km dual carriageway project, which aims to reduce traffic congestion into Limbang town, is scheduled for completion next February.

Dr Rahman, who is Bukit Kota assemblyman, said efficient maintenance of the drainage system is crucial to prevent flash flooding as rapid surface run off from adjacent Bukit Mas must be quickly drained into Limbang River.

He added the Department of Drainage and Irrigation is currently conducting studies for the Limbang Drainage Masterplan, which should be ready this year.

“This masterplan is important to provide the solution to flash flood woes in Limbang,” he said.
