MIRI: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Senadin branch has listed a number of drainage upgrading projects for Senadin constituency costing about RM5 million to be implemented next year.

Senadin assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is Transport Minister, said these projects would be implemented under the state’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

“Out of the total amount, some RM1 million would be channelled to improve the drainage system for Tudan areas,” he stated to the media yesterday after checking on the latest drainage projects to be implemented in Tudan areas.

During the site visit, he was happy to note that the 800m concrete drainage for Tudan Phase 1 was finally completed.

He said another 360m concrete drainage and road crossing culvert would be implemented soon for the same area.

At the same time, he expressed his concern on the stagnant water in the drains and urged the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) Miri to clear the drains.

He sought total cooperation from house owners not to plant any fruit or flower trees and even grow vegetables at the roadside including the empty space outside their house as the area is government reserve land for road expansion.

“The people cannot expect compensation for fruit trees or vegetables they plant on the government reserve land.

“It is important for them not to plant anything on the reserve land so that it would be easy for Miri City Council (MCC) or even DID contractors to carry out drain clearing works.”

Also present were representatives of DID Miri.
