SIBU: Sarawak does not need the federal government-proposed village Community Management Council (MPKK).

Assistant Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Julaihi Narawi said that Village Secruity and Development Committee (JKKK) has already proven to be the best mold for the state.

“We do not need MPKK because JKKK has already been proven to do its jobs well,” he said at the ground-breaking ceremony of Penasu-Nanga Semah road at Rumah Antan Ujieh in Nanga Semah, Daro, yesterday.

He added that JKKK, headed by a Ketua Kaum, Tuai Rumah, or Kapitan was the best mold for Sarawak’s development, whereas MPKK was just to fulfil the political agenda of politicians in Peninsular Malaysia.

On the 10.5 km Nanga Semah-Penasu road, Julaihi said when completed it would allow the people to move faster and easier by land compared to water transport that is being used now.

It would also open up large tract of land along the way for commercial and other business ventures, which would contribute to the local economy.

The road project costing about RM45 million is expected to be completed within two years.

Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad, director of state Irrigation and Dainage Department Chok Moi Soon and the Daro District Officer Buang Rahman Seli were also present at the function.
