KUCHING: Another flood relief centre was opened in the district of Lundu, bringing the numbers of temporary relief centres for flood victims to three as at 1pm today.

According to a statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat spokesman said Kampung Paon Community Hall is the latest relief centre to be opened.

“Incessant rains have caused low lying areas to be inundated and rivers to overflow to nearby houses.

“As of 8am today,  some houses are already inundated by one to two feet of water.

The water level is still high and the rain is expected to continue until tomorrow.

Other affected villages include Kampung Sebat Dayak, Kampung Sebat Melayu,  Kampung Temaga Dayak,  Kampung Temaga Melayu, Kampung Sebat Baru, Kampung Sebat Dayak, Kampung Sebako, Kampung Judin and Kampung Serayan Cina.

However, JPBN Sarawak is still in the process of updating the number of affected families and victims.

Two relief centres were opened yesterday at Dewan Sinaran Kampung Lumut and Surau Ar Rahman di Kampung Sungai Batu, which housed 50 flood victims from 12 families.
